Backstory
Right after I created "Floor Play Comes Before the Foreplay," I wanted another floor-play song that really turned up the energy. That became "More Play Comes After the Floor Play."
I was still very new to songwriting, and I made a lot of mistakes with this one. Several times, I thought I had finished it, published it, discovered something wrong, and pulled it back down. I'd work on it some more, publish it again, and then realize I still hadn't gotten it right.
Eventually, I thought I'd finally nailed it. Then I watched line dancers at The Westerner start dancing to it. They began with real enthusiasm, but partway through the song, that enthusiasm turned to frustration. The beat wasn't consistent enough for them to keep dancing comfortably.
So I pulled it down again. This time, instead of just making another round of changes, I set up an AI test to get to the heart of the problem. The test helped me address the rhythmic issues, but it also convinced me that the song would probably need a complete rewrite to become the kind of line-dance track I wanted.
I still think it's a very strong dance song. Line dancing is a different standard: the beat has to be consistent enough for a roomful of dancers to stay together. Songs like "The Zombie Stomp" are stronger in that respect. On my current list of ten line-dance songs, "More Play Comes After the Floor Play" sits at number ten, with a score of 8.1 out of 10.
I set out to make the floor play more energetic, and I did. Getting that energy to work reliably for line dancers turned out to be a much harder lesson.
