Celtic Country Dancing

Lyrics

[Verse 1] By the old stone wall where the heather bends I met Maeve at dusk with a basket of hens She said, “Come along, love, the fiddler’s begun” And the moon wore a silver buckle on [Pre-Chorus] The kettle sings, the lanterns swing The river keeps time below Take my hand, don’t miss the turn Round and round we go [Chorus] Step to the left, then circle right County hearts in the lantern light Heel on the floor, let the wild grass sway Celtic country dancing till the break of day Hey now, sweetheart, don’t let go Follow the reel where the green hills grow From the old oak barn to the Galway bay Celtic country dancing till the break of day [Verse 2] There’s a banshee breeze through the barley field And a fox-red mare that refuses to yield My granddad swore by the ash and thorn That luck comes laughing when the tune is born [Pre-Chorus] The kettle sings, the lanterns swing The river keeps time below Take my hand, don’t miss the turn Round and round we go [Chorus] Step to the left, then circle right County hearts in the lantern light Heel on the floor, let the wild grass sway Celtic country dancing till the break of day Hey now, sweetheart, don’t let go Follow the reel where the green hills grow From the old oak barn to the Galway bay Celtic country dancing till the break of day [Bridge] If the fair folk call from beyond the hill We’ll answer kindly, but we’ll dance still With a horseshoe bright above the door And a promise we can’t keep off the floor [Final Chorus] Step to the left, then circle right County hearts in the lantern light Heel on the floor, let the wild grass sway Celtic country dancing till the break of day Hey now, sweetheart, don’t let go Follow the reel where the green hills grow From the old oak barn to the Galway bay Celtic country dancing till the break of day [Outro] Round and round till the morning comes Fiddle, whistle, boots, and drums Round and round, let the whole world say Celtic country dancing till the break of day
