Title: Floor Play Comes Before the Foreplay

Release Date: February 12, 2026

[Intro] Local band croonin' some old heartbreak song Scuffed-up boots, we’ve been here all night long [Verse 1] But then you laugh and the whole room fades You tug my hand, say, "Baby, let's misbehave" The Westerner dance hall's alive with the crowd Floorboards shakin', boots stompin' loud We're dodgin' bodies, but locked in our stare This worn-out floor feels like it's ours to share [Pre-Chorus] We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control [Chorus] Floor play comes before the foreplay High swingin' under a neon glow We pull each other close, then sling back tight Floor play comes before the foreplay We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control Floor play comes before the foreplay... yeah tonight [Verse 2] Spin me 'round till the world gets hazy Boot heels clickin', drivin' me crazy You pull me tight, then you dip me low and sway Every little sway sayin' what you won't say Bodies pressed close in that neon haze We keep on dancin', pushin' back the day [Pre-Chorus] We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control [Chorus] Floor play comes before the foreplay High swingin' under a neon glow We pull each other close, then sling back tight Floor play comes before the foreplay We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control Floor play comes before the foreplay... yeah tonight [Verse 3] Last call lights are flickerin' low Crowd's thinnin' out, but we still won't go Hands slidin' down, pullin' us in for one more Hearts poundin' hard with every quick-quick beat We sway down low, no words left to say This dance is endin', but the night's just begun to play [Pre-Chorus] We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control [Chorus] Floor play comes before the foreplay High swingin' under a neon glow We pull each other close, then sling back tight Floor play comes before the foreplay We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control Floor play comes before the foreplay... yeah tonight [Bridge] Floor play comes before the foreplay Kill the lights when they close that door Last tight turn in this old hallway Floor play comes before the foreplay... one more [Chorus] Floor play comes before the foreplay High swingin' under a neon glow We pull each other close, then sling back tight Floor play comes before the foreplay We ain't leavin' yet, darlin', don't you know One more spin and we'll lose control Floor play comes before the foreplay... yeah tonight [Outro] Local band croonin' some old heartbreak song Scuffed-up boots, we’ve been here all night long Floor play comes before the foreplay... yeah tonight

Backstory

In January 2026, I had been country dancing for only a couple of months. One night, a friend and I were on our way to The Westerner in West Valley City, Utah, when a thought came to me: dancing is floor play. I said it out loud. A moment later, another phrase followed: “Floor Play Comes Before the Foreplay.”

I told my friend that one too, and immediately felt it was the name of a song I needed to write. The problem was that I had no musical background. I didn’t know how to write a song, produce one, or even where to begin. But the idea stayed with me. I decided that when I got home, I would find out how to make it real.

I started by telling ChatGPT what had happened. It introduced me to music tools, including Suno, and I began learning how they worked. We talked through the kind of song I wanted: country music made for dancing, with a story rooted in the dance hall where the idea was born. I wanted The Westerner in the lyrics.

ChatGPT gave me a rough draft. I used it as a starting point, then spent more than 40 hours working on the words until they said what I wanted them to say. Producing the recording was another challenge. I was new to Suno, and getting the melody, drums, and feel to match the song in my head was frustrating. I made more than 1,000 iterations before choosing the version I released.

Friends have raised a fair concern with me: if AI helps create music, what happens to the human artists who make their living from it? I’ve taken that seriously. I don’t charge bands or singers for permission to perform my songs live or share their performances on social media, provided they credit my work. CD Baby’s existing collection program may still apply to monetized social-platform videos. My goal is to give human musicians more songs they can make their own.

As soon as I can afford it, I also want to work with human vocalists and production teams to record my songs. AI gave me a way to begin creating music when I didn’t know how. I want what I build with it to create opportunities for other artists too.

“Floor Play Comes Before the Foreplay” began as a passing thought on the way to a dance hall. It became my first released song on February 12, 2026.
